Description

The Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) 1 IgG & IgM test detects both IgG and IgM antibodies specific to HSV type 1 in the blood.

  • IgM antibodies appear shortly after an initial HSV-1 infection, indicating a recent or primary infection.
  • IgG antibodies develop later and persist for life, signaling past exposure or an established infection.

Testing for both IgG and IgM helps determine whether an HSV-1 infection is recent or long-standing. This test is useful for diagnosing HSV-1, commonly associated with oral herpes (cold sores), and for assessing whether someone has been exposed to the virus before.
