Description
Glucose – Fasting is a blood test that measures the level of glucose (sugar) in the blood after an individual has not eaten for at least 8 hours. This test is commonly used to evaluate metabolic health and diagnose conditions related to blood sugar regulation, such as diabetes and prediabetes.
Fasting glucose levels provide insight into how well the body regulates glucose levels and can help identify insulin resistance. Normal fasting glucose levels typically range from 70 to 99 mg/dL (milligrams per deciliter). Levels between 100 and 125 mg/dL indicate prediabetes, while levels of 126 mg/dL or higher on two separate occasions suggest diabetes. The fasting glucose test is a fundamental tool in diabetes screening and management, aiding healthcare providers in developing appropriate treatment plans and lifestyle recommendations for individuals at risk of or diagnosed with diabetes.
