Description
The Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR), measured by the Wintrobe method, is a blood test used to detect inflammation. It assesses how quickly red blood cells (erythrocytes) settle at the bottom of a narrow Wintrobe tube. A faster rate can indicate inflammation, infection, or other medical conditions, while a slower rate is generally within normal limits. The Wintrobe method is similar to the Westergren method but uses a shorter tube and is sometimes less sensitive to minor inflammation changes.
