Description
Erythrocyte Count (RBC Count) measures the number of red blood cells (erythrocytes) in a given volume of blood, typically expressed as millions of cells per microliter (µL). Red blood cells are crucial for transporting oxygen from the lungs to the body’s tissues and returning carbon dioxide for exhalation. A normal RBC count is essential for maintaining adequate oxygenation and overall health. Abnormal levels can indicate various health issues: low counts may suggest anemia, bone marrow disorders, or chronic diseases, while high counts could indicate dehydration, polycythemia vera, or lung disease. The RBC count is often part of a complete blood count (CBC) and is used to assess a person’s overall health and diagnose medical conditions.
