Description

The “Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA)” test measures the level of CEA, a protein that can be elevated in certain cancers, particularly colorectal cancer. CEA levels are used primarily to monitor cancer treatment effectiveness and to detect cancer recurrence. While high levels of CEA may indicate cancer, they can also be elevated in some non-cancerous conditions, such as inflammation, infection, or smoking. CEA testing is generally not used for cancer screening in the general population but is valuable for tracking known cancer cases.
