Widal Test (Slide Test) is a serological test used to diagnose typhoid fever by detecting the presence of specific antibodies (agglutinins) against the Salmonella typhi bacteria in the blood. The test involves mixing the patient’s serum with known antigens on a slide and observing for agglutination, which indicates a positive reaction. Although the Widal test can provide quick results, it has limitations, including cross-reactivity with other infections and variable sensitivity and specificity. It is often used in conjunction with clinical symptoms and other diagnostic methods to confirm typhoid fever and guide appropriate treatment.
