Description

The Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR), measured by the Westergren method, is a blood test that assesses inflammation in the body. It measures the rate at which red blood cells (erythrocytes) settle at the bottom of a test tube over a specified period. A higher ESR may indicate inflammation or infection, while a lower rate is generally normal. It’s commonly used to help diagnose conditions like arthritis, infections, and autoimmune diseases.
