Description
Bleeding Time and Clotting Time are tests that evaluate different aspects of blood clotting.
- Bleeding Time measures how long it takes for bleeding to stop after a small cut or puncture. It assesses the function of platelets and blood vessels in forming a clot.
- Clotting Time measures how long it takes for blood to form a stable clot after being drawn into a test tube. It assesses the overall effectiveness of the blood clotting process, including clotting factors produced by the liver.
Both tests are used to diagnose bleeding disorders, monitor patients on anticoagulant therapy, and assess pre-surgical risk for excessive bleeding.
