Description
The Bilirubin (Total + Direct) test measures the levels of bilirubin in the blood. Bilirubin is a yellow pigment produced during the breakdown of red blood cells. The test provides two results: Total Bilirubin, which is the sum of all bilirubin in the blood, and Direct Bilirubin, which measures the conjugated (processed) form that the liver has metabolized. This test helps evaluate liver function and can aid in diagnosing conditions like jaundice, liver disease, and bile duct blockages. Elevated bilirubin levels may indicate liver damage or other health issues.
