The Anti-Nuclear Antibodies (ANA) test detects the presence of antibodies that target components within the cell nucleus. A positive ANA test can indicate an autoimmune disorder, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), rheumatoid arthritis, or Sjögren’s syndrome. While a positive result may suggest an autoimmune condition, it is not definitive, as some healthy individuals may also have low levels of ANA. The test is usually performed on a blood sample, and results are interpreted alongside clinical symptoms and other diagnostic tests to guide further evaluation and treatment.
