Description
Adenosine Deaminase (ADA) is an enzyme involved in the breakdown of adenosine, an important molecule in cellular metabolism and immune function. ADA testing is primarily used to help diagnose tuberculosis (TB), particularly in cases of pleural effusion (fluid in the chest cavity), by measuring ADA levels in body fluids like pleural fluid. Elevated ADA levels can indicate active TB, especially when other symptoms or clinical findings align with the disease. ADA levels can also be elevated in certain other infections or inflammatory conditions, but it’s most commonly associated with TB diagnosis.
