Description

The Absolute Eosinophil Count (AEC) measures the number of eosinophils, a type of white blood cell, in the blood. Eosinophils play a role in the body’s immune response, particularly in fighting parasitic infections, allergic reactions, and certain autoimmune diseases. A normal AEC ranges from 0 to 500 cells per microliter of blood. Elevated levels, known as eosinophilia, may indicate conditions such as allergies, asthma, parasitic infections, or autoimmune disorders. Low levels are less common but can occur in certain medical conditions or as a side effect of specific medications.
